Robbers attack Ogun’s “Computer Village,” resulting in one fatality

A trader, identified as Dayo Bankole, was tragically shot and killed during a robbery attack at a popular phone market in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital. The incident occurred during broad daylight when an armed gang of eight individuals arrived on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic among the traders and shoppers who fled to safety.

However, the brave traders later rallied and pursued the robbers, resulting in the arrest of one suspect. Sadly, Dayo Bankole succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at General Hospital, Ijaye Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the police successfully repelled the armed robbery gang. He further explained that the robbers stormed the market, known as “TARMARC,” at around 5:30 p.m., stealing expensive phones and engaging in a gun battle with the police.

With the assistance of the market traders, one of the robbers, identified as Adeniji Sakiru, aged 32, was apprehended. A double-barrel locally made gun and assorted criminal charms were recovered from the suspect.

The outgoing Commissioner of Police, now AIG Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Oyeyemi also ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang to ensure they are brought to justice.

The PPRO appealed to the public, especially hospitals, to inform the police if anyone with a gunshot injury is seen in their area. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the need for heightened security measures to protect lives and property in our communities.
