A fatal accident along the Enugu-Abakaliki Federal Highway has claimed the lives of at least 12 passengers, including 10 women and 2 men. The victims were traveling in a 14-seater shuttle bus chartered from Abakaliki to Enugu State to attend a burial when the accident occurred. According to FRSC, the bus collided head-on with a truck returning from Enugu State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the incident, with the Sector Commander of FRSC in Ebonyi, Uche Chukwurah, providing details. Two passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Contrary to earlier reports, sources have clarified that the victims were not students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), but rather had hired the bus for a non-academic trip. The passengers, mostly women, had hired the bus to attend an event outside the state, believed to be a burial.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the importance of road safety and the need for drivers and passengers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations at all times. FRSC urges road users to prioritize safety, obey speed limits, and avoid reckless driving to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
