A Kuwaiti media outlet has unveiled “Fedha,” an AI-generated virtual news presenter. As the first AI-powered news presenter in Kuwait, Fedha is seen as a test of AI’s potential for “new and innovative content.”

Plans include Fedha adopting the Kuwaiti accent and presenting news bulletins on the website’s Twitter account with 1.2 million followers.

The name “Fedha” combines the imagery of robots being silver and metallic, derived from the popular old Kuwaiti name for silver. Despite Kuwait’s low ranking of 158 out of 180 countries in the 2022 Press Freedom Index, the introduction of Fedha as an AI-powered news presenter marks an intriguing advancement in Kuwait’s media landscape.
