Clinton Amadi, a candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly representing Owerri municipal constituency, has been released from police custody. Amadi, a member of the Labour Party (LP) and a former lawmaker at the state House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011, was arrested on April 3 at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) secretariat located at Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Reports indicate that Amadi was arrested by the operatives of the Tiger Base of the police command while he was obtaining Certified True Copies of electoral materials from INEC. The arrest was confirmed by the 27 LP lawmakers who were elected in the recent House of Assembly elections in the state. They have since demanded the immediate release of Amadi in a statement.
