Peter Obi will not leave Nigeria despite pressure from various sources – Labour Party

The Presidential Campaign Council of the Labour Party has reiterated that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not leave Nigeria despite mounting pressure on him to do so.

The Council dismissed the pressure as the work of mischief makers who are attempting to hinder Obi’s pursuit of justice through the court.

Obi had earlier stated on his Twitter handle that he was being pressured to leave the country due to attacks against him from various quarters, and also clarified that an audio conversation leaked between him and Bishop David Oyedepo was doctored and fake.

However, in a statement released by the Chief Spokesperson of the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, on Thursday night, it was emphasized that Obi has no intention of leaving the country despite the pressure on him and his family.

The statement revealed that Obi has been contacted by associates, elder statesmen, family, and friends expressing concerns about his personal safety, which have increased in recent days due to intense pressure for him to leave the country, allegedly from sources associated with the APC (All Progressives Congress) and its agents in the security services.

The statement further condemned the alleged campaign of calumny orchestrated by the APC to discredit and delegitimize Obi, including the circulation of fake and doctored audio calls.

It noted that the legal team has been instructed to take appropriate legal actions against media outlets that are being used as tools by the APC’s propagandists.

The statement also highlighted Obi’s commitment to the lawful and peaceful retrieval of the mandate, his focus on securing and uniting Nigeria, and his call for a new Nigeria that is defined by opportunities for all, an end to poverty and corruption, and an end to tribal and religious divisions.

It appealed to religious leaders, especially in the North, not to be part of any grand design to further exacerbate religious and ethnic divides in the country.

It also called on President Buhari to rein in his officials at all levels to prevent unnecessary crises in the country, regardless of the outcome of the court process.
