Unknown gunmen kidnap nine residents in Abuja estate

On Friday night, a group of more than 20 gunmen carried out an attack in the Kubuwa neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, kidnapping nine residents from the Grow Homes Estate.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. with the gunmen arriving in large numbers and launching the attack from two apartments in the estate.

Residents reported hearing the sound of gunshots and panic spreading throughout the community as a result of the incident. The gunmen moved from one apartment to the other, dispossessing people of their belongings and abducting at least nine persons, including children and women.

After the attack, the gunmen escaped through the bush which linked the community to Paze village.

The police and estate security have been working to search the surrounding areas since morning, hoping to rescue the kidnapped residents. While the police and estate security were deployed to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call, the suspects suspended their operations and took some of their victims with them into the bush.

FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that they are working hard to ensure the victims are rescued unhurt. Adeh urged residents of the area not to panic and to provide any useful information that could lead to the swift arrest of the assailants.

This incident is just one of several recent attacks in the FCT, indicating a worrying trend of insecurity in the area. The government has promised to take stronger action to improve security and protect citizens, but more needs to be done to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
