The Osun state Amotekun Corps recently announced that it has dispatched patrol teams to support the police in preparation for the upcoming general election. This was confirmed by Brig-Gen Bashir Adewinmbi (Rtd), the Osun Amotekun Commander, who disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday in Oshogbo.
In his statement, Adewinmbi expressed the agency’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful election by implementing measures to checkmate potential threats across the state. According to him, the agency’s operatives have been working tirelessly to gather actionable intelligence and would continue to do so to ensure that any security threats are promptly neutralized.

In addition to intelligence gathering, Adewinmbi disclosed that the agency has deployed patrol teams to complement the efforts of the Nigerian Police. These teams would be responsible for preventing and checking criminal activities before, during, and after the forthcoming election. The Osogbo and its environs would mainly be covered by the patrol teams to prevent criminals from coming into the state and disrupting the peace.
Adewinmbi emphasized that Osun is known as a peaceful state, and they intend to maintain it that way. He called on the residents to be security-conscious, report any suspicious activities to the security agencies, and avoid undue exposure of their valuables. By working together with the police, Amotekun is confident that the state would experience a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.
