The Presidential Aide for Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has shared his experiences with the recent currency shortage in Nigeria. In an article titled “Living on a Tight Budget,” Adesina spoke about how the shortage has affected him, despite being a government official.
He shared that he has been living on a weekly budget of N20,000, and described a journey he took in January to cities such as Bauchi, Lagos, Senegal, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa, where the shortage was evident.
Adesina explained that he had to send his savings to the bank in order to avoid losing its value and described the process of securing cash as difficult, even for a government official.

Despite this, he advised against taking the law into one’s own hands and emphasized that the shortage is temporary and will eventually pass. He spoke out against looting, bank attacks, and other forms of civil disobedience, encouraging Nigerians to exercise patience until the economy improves.
Adesina also shared how he had to make difficult choices, such as canceling his weekend plans and limiting his spending to N8,000 for fuel. He concluded by saying that though it may be a trying time, the future holds promise, and the country’s economy, political process, and lives will be improved when the shortage passes.
