A married woman named Imolita has accused a security guard, Ibuchi Emmanuel, of raping her while she was on night duty at a school where she worked as a nurse. Imolita stated that Emmanuel approached her earlier in the evening and requested to see her later that night. She said that when Emmanuel returned to her room later that evening and asked for vitamin C, she gave it to him and then offered him a seat when he requested for one.

During their discussion, Emmanuel allegedly professed his love for Imolita, who reminded him that she was married with children. Despite this, Emmanuel reportedly proceeded to force himself on Imolita, telling her that no one would hear her if she screamed for help. Imolita fought back, telling Emmanuel that she would not be a cheap woman and urging him to go find single girls instead.

However, Emmanuel persisted and attempted to kiss, touch, and remove Imolita’s pants against her will. Imolita said that she begged Emmanuel not to go through with the act, reminding him of her own cultural values and the fact that it could cost her her marriage. In a last-ditch effort to escape, Imolita even offered Emmanuel a condom, but he refused and continued to assault her.

During cross-examination, Imolita revealed that she had suggested the use of a condom in an attempt to find an opportunity to flee the situation. The case has been adjourned until March 22, 2023 for further trial, and Emmanuel has been remanded in custody at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre in the meantime.
