2023: I cant’t support any presidential candidate – Chris Ngige

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has explained why he is unable to support or campaign for any of the four presidential candidates currently vying for the seat of presidency. Speaking at his hometown of Alor in Anambra State on Tuesday, Ngige, a member of the All Progressives Party, stated that all four candidates – Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party – are his friends and colleagues, and as such, he cannot choose just one to support.

Ngige emphasized the importance of carefully evaluating each candidate’s manifesto and track record before making a decision, and urged Nigerians to vote for the right candidate who will work for their benefit. He described each of the frontrunners as good candidates with experience in governance at the federal and state levels, and emphasized his personal relationships with each of them. Ngige referred to Peter Obi as his brother, and spoke of his close relationship with Atiku Abubakar, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Despite his desire to help those in need, Ngige emphasized the importance of setting boundaries and has enlisted the help of his brother to limit the number of people who can reach him. He explained that while he may be tempted to give money to anyone who asks, continuing to do so could lead to financial ruin.

Ngige concluded by stating that campaigning for any particular candidate is not his “stock in trade,” and that he is committed to protecting his conscience and not jumping from party to party. It should be noted that Ngige had previously expressed interest in running for the APC presidential primary, but ultimately withdrew from the race.
